Camera Envy

I'm having some serious camera envy these days~

I read all the blogs...with all the tips...and all the tutorials...but the part I always, always, always want to get to is the  "What's In The Bag".

I somehow think that if I had that camera with that lens just like that person has then maybe possibly I could produce images like that too?  Am I the only one that thinks like that?

Anyway...I've been torturing myself lately and looking at cameras as if I'm actually going to be buying one...you know, getting together my serious Wish List.  Here's what I've discovered~

I can't decide.

I've always said I wanted the Nikon d300s if I were to ever upgrade, but I've read recently about the Canon 7D and it seems to be a pretty close race.  So I figured why bother wasting my time anymore by reading boring reviews...I'll just take it to the experts...YOU!

I need opinions...I'm wanting this...(without the kit lens)
{These are all screen shots from B&H Photo}

But this is also looking pretty tempting...

And I'm wanting these...

So I'm dying to know....would you choose the Canon or the Nikon?
Does anyone have these...love these...hate 'em...?
And what about the lenses....should these cover every situation?
The camera store lady recommended I get a 35mm too to cover the crop factor...I would have never even thought of that~

Here's your chance...pass along your wisdom and help me create the Perfect Wish List!

I have a Canon (nothing as fancy as the one you want) and I love it! My sister talked to a professional photographer and for some reason she recommended the Canon to her. She is making her wish list too. Good Luck! PS....I always think, I wish I could make my photos look like yours!

Camera envy!! I've got it bad too!! My first problem is full frame vs crop sensor. Lots of portrait photogs say ff is the only thing to consider. I currently have a Nikon D90. I've strongly thought about the Canon 7D. It looks like a great camera. I'm anxious to see if Nikon comes out with a D90 or D300 replacement soon.
I have the Nikon 50mm 1.4G and would suggest it over the D version. And instead of the Nikon 18-105, I think you should consider another prime lens or a constant f2.8 zoom. Maybe the Tamron 28-75 since the Nikon 24-70 is so pricey. I have the Nikon 35-70 f2.8 which isn't made any more, but can be found used at a good price. Wow! I think I have written too much...

I just got a 7d at the end of december, and I LOVE it. My 50mm never leaves my camera. I highly suggest canon, Im a canon girl.

Well, if you can get a lense with a 2.8 that would be better, they are pricier but having a fast lens is great in those low light situations, or just blur the heck out of the background. On those zooms you really lose a lot when you have it zoomed all the way out. but then again, price difference. UGH! You can save a bit by going Sigma though, just a thought. I shoot with a D700, a Sigma 70-200 2.8 and a Sigma 24-70 2.8. As far as Nikon VS Canon, maybe you need to feel them both in your hands to know for sure. We live in the middle of no where so it was B&H all the way.

Besides, your pictures are AWESOME!!! Save for the upgrade. Obviously it's the talent BEHIND the lens and you are rocking it!!!

Nikon all the way. I don't have the d300s, but someday I hope to. Please please get one so I can live vicariously through you until I do.

I love your blog by the way. You've really helped me along the way. Keep up the great work. Thanks.

Camera Envy is a virus that's going around!! I have a fever!! Anyway--CANON! I have the the 40D which was an upgrade of the Rebel I had. I agree with everyone else who said to go no lower than the 2.8. The speed of those lenses is wonderful for so many circumstances. I just got the 85mm 1.8! I can't keep it off my camera!! Have fun deciding!! Oh Yeah--I envy YOUR talent!! (In a good way!!0

O, we will never be satisfied! I LOVE my Nikon D200 & D50. They are oldies, but goodies! I love the 50mm lens and my stock lens, but my wish is for the 85mm and 24-70mm lens. I find myself always renting them because they are too pricey. Let us know what you've decided! Go Nikon!

Everyone has given me absolutely awesome tips and opinions to think on!

I'm seriously taking a look at other lenses now....I'm lovin' the information I'm getting....way better than reading a boring old magazine review!

Keep your thoughts coming!!

It might not matter too much to you since you are so gifted in post processing your photos but Nikons tend to have more vivid, warmer color over Canon. If you visit the photography section of thepioneerwoman.com, she talks a lot about it and she takes some really beautiful photos like you do.

I have the first 2 lenses you mentioned and my 50mm hardly ever leaves my camera. My photographic life literally changed once I got that lens.

I have the Nikon D90 and I must say that I will never own a camera made by another manufacturer! I love Nikon. Like your last commenter said, they give more vivid, warmer color and you simply can't beat a Nikor lens! I too have the first two lenses you mentioned, the 18-105 is okay, but the nifty 50 is simpy amazing! I'd get it first if I were you. I'm sure however, that no matter what you ulitmately decide that your images will continue to be AMAZING! Your photos inspire me!

I have a Nikon D40. I'm not a photographer but take lots of photos especially of my girls soccer. I would love to upgrade my camera. I have two lenses, but they aren't anything fancy. I do have a Quantaray (which I know is cheaper), 70-300 zoom, but I really like it. I'm always drooling over lenses and cameras and you just contributed to more drooling!
