My Favorite Weekend

It's been 4 long, cold months since we've been on the soccer fields.
I've missed it.

With 3 boys playing Select Soccer our soccer weekends are hectic, tiring, chaotic, expensive, frustrating and generally just crazy.

We had 7 games this weekend which gave me plenty of time to chronicle just exactly what it is I love about my favorite weekends...

I love the fact that Wild Child gets up early, dresses for the cold and gives it his all...

...even when he'd rather be snuggled up warm back in his bed.

I love watching the skill...

...and the unexpected.

I love watching my kids find new friends to play with...

...and exploring around the fields with the old friends.

I love the team spirit...

...and even the fashion statements.

Leather neon yellow doesn't go with just any outfit.

I love not worrying about my camera settings and still getting shots like this...

...and this...

I love watching the sideline coaches call the game...

...the refs should really listen to them more often.

I love seeing the determination...

...and the good sportsmanship they're learning.

And I love the battles.

Anytime you combine
a lot of boys...

...with a lot of adrenaline...

...and only 1 trophy...

...you're going to see some battles.

I really, really love it when we get the trophy.

But what I love the most...

...what really makes this my favorite kind of weekend...

...is to know that the battle on the soccer fields...

...is the only battle...

...my kids will have to fight this weekend.

I love your soccer pictures! My son starts his first soccer league this weekend :) Do you mind me asking what lens you used to capture those pictures?

I used my 70-300 for every shot in this post. I think it's really difficult to photograph any sports game with anything smaller. Most of those close up action shots are at 150mm or higher. Best of luck, I'm sure you'll absolutely love watching & cheering & shooting!

As a Mom to 3 soccer players (2 of whom happen to play on those same teams as Way Outnumbered's kids) I absolutely love this post!!! I love being back in the thick of it too!!!

Great photos! Can I ask how you did that background in that beautiful green/yellow photo on the swing?? I adore that!

Thank you. That lens is definitely on my wish list. :) With my current lens, I just cannot get close enough to the action.

Nothin' fancy to get that *fab* green background...just a grassy area that was behind him and my 70-300 gave me great bokeh with it! I added a subtle texture from ShadowHouseCreations to darken the edges and used Coffeeshop Vivid 2 on the Soft option to brighten the colors. Maybe I'll do a blog post on it if I can remember exactly which texture I used!
